Frequently asked questions
How much do lenses cost?
Lenses vary in price depending upon the prescription, the type and the frame used.
The cheapest lens is a single focal, scratch resistant plastic lens, which costs $90(pair). We use this lens also for our budget packages and fully covered health insurance jobs.
There are literally thousands of different lenses that are used in spectacles, and in every case the benefits must be weighed against the cost to suit the individual. At eyecandy we do our best to explain these options and allow you to make up your mind based on your needs.
How long will my lenses take?
For most prescriptions we can have your lenses within a week, sometimes overnight if you tell us you are in a hurry. If you have a very high prescription or order lenses that are more complicated to produce it can take up to a few weeks.
What if my lenses don’t feel right?
This is a common question as spectacles can often be difficult to get used to at first. We like you to give them a try for a week to see if you become more comfortable in them as often this is all it takes. But we also understand that sometimes it takes more than a standard eye test for some people who are sensitive to changes in their prescription.
If you find that you cannot adjust to a new prescription, or even just the new frame, we are more than happy to spend some more time with you and work it out. We want you to be happy!
How do I clean my lenses?
We recommend a good quality cleaning cloth for the day to day cleaning, with an ‘eyecandy’ cleaning spray for the extra dirty glasses. You can also put most glasses under luke warm running water with some detergent for a really good clean. Don’t use hot water as some lenses are sensitive to temperature extremes. Don’t use acetone, methylated spirit, turpentine, alcohol, windex and general organic solvents as these can also affect some lenses.
Don’t rub dry lenses if they have dust or grit on them as it acts like sand paper, try and rinse them first.
Do lenses have a warranty?
All lenses sold at eyecandy have a one year warranty on manufacturing. We want you to be happy so any trouble you have with the prescription, tell us! We will do our best to fix it any way we can. Multifocal lenses come with a three month warranty covering you if you cannot adjust to them. Within those three months we can change aspects of the lenses to best suit you, and if you still can’t adjust to them we can change them to another type of lens such as a bifocal at no extra charge.
Can I make my lenses thinner?
A len’s thickness is measured by it’s refractive index. The most basic and cheapest lenses are a 1.499 index. This is the thickest type, but is suitable for most people who don’t have high prescriptions. There is a whole range of products in different indexes up to a 1.9 index lens which is the thinnest and obviously most expensive. We can look at your prescription and help you decide which lens type will be suitable, there are many variables which affect this choice and it must be considered on an individual basis.
